Monson Boys Dominate County Championships
The Kent County Swimming Championships have reached the halfway stage and the RTW Monson boys are dominating the medal table. To date they have amassed 12 Golds, 7 Silvers and 4 Bronze medals putting them in a strong lead with 2 weekends to go.
Aran Bissett, Ellis Stanhope, Andre Strydom and Teilo Williams have led the way in the Gold tally, with Reuben Edwards, Kody Bradbury and Charlie Crewe collecting minor medals.
Supported by the girls with 6 Gold, 5 Silver and 6 Bronze medals this puts the club in second position overall.
Reflecting on the first 2 weekends Head Coach Graham Bassi said, "Last year we were a distant 5thplace but over the course of the last 12 months we have made strong progress. We train through these Championships with no rest but learn from mistakes being made. Our boys have grown into a tough unit and we have to help the girls follow suit. The most interesting stat is that last year we only had a handful of Age Group swimmers qualify for Regionals: already this year we have 21 with automatic or consideration times."
With 2 weekends to go followed by an overseas training camp in Cyprus the club are preparing for their greatest every year. Bassi said "Progress is strong, skills are improving and with the onset of our new structured program we have a chance of challenging at higher levels. We have introduced World Class Skill Clinics days for our Juniors and constantly looking at increasing our pool time. We know our goals and we aim to achieve them."
The championships are being held at the Crystal Palace Training Centre and will conclude over the next two weekends.
